About O.H.O (Optimal Health Outcomes) East of the River Initiative

The COVID-19 Pandemic presented the East of the River community with a number of new health and social service challenges, in addition to exacerbating pre- existing and under addressed health threats. It also highlighted the resilience, dedication, and effectiveness of our community and faith-based organizations as we worked together, and in collaboration with DC Health, to mitigate the tragic dimensions of this public health crisis.

Given that new public health emergencies are inevitable and given the long-standing health issues that continue to plague our community, four community organizations (Anacostia Coordinating Council, Marthas Table, Ward 8 Health Council and Health Alliance Network) have come together, with the support of the Black Coalition Against Covid, to lead the formation of the Optimal Health Outcomes East of the River Initiative (OHOER). OHOER’s mission is to advance the health of its community through data-driven strategic planning; coordinating, leveraging and supporting community wide health and social service organizational assets; and establishing effective collaborations with DC Health/ DC Government. The single focus of the OHOER initiative is to enhance the health of the residents of our community.
